I would say not. My start battery is a U1 with 350 CCA and it is pretty minimal for a cold-soaked engine. When the engine is hot it takes about 1 second to fire up, but on a cold day when the engine has been sitting a tiny battery will be run dead long before the engine starts. I will usually start...

I doubt your engine is too lean, the opposite is much more likely. Some people do add the adjustable jet and an O2 sensor.
On my 914 I had dual 2-barrel 40mm Del'Ortos. I never had a way to tune them back then but by feel and reading plugs. At any speed over 100 it sounded like the world's biggest...

I ran 100LL one winter to get around ethanol issues and besides for smelling different, the engine ran the exact same on 100 octane as on 87....

If the engine was underpropped I would be hitting 3500 RPM or so. Being held under redline is murder on diesels, but the A4 can take it....

Judging by the noise and manifold vacuum, it probably takes me twice the gas to go 6.5 knots as 6. The last bit takes all the power.

I get 2300=2400 RPM with my Indigo. Doing a static test running against the dock lines I get over 2000.

My spare alternator is a Motorola 50 amp that came with some A4s. It took maybe 10 minutes to swap it to external regulation....
