Smoking Instrument Panel
While I had the coil and distributor apart, I decided I wanted to fiddle with the instrument panel. Now, none of the connections to the coil were in place, so keep that in mind.
I switched on my instrument panel and the WIRE between the grounding wire between the oil and the temperature gauge started smoking and caught on FIRE! It was cool, but scary. I also noticed that when I switched on the instrument panel, the amps, temp, and oil all went the OPPOSITE way they should have which made me think the flow of the electricity was going the wrong way? What can I do to get my instrument panel working again? It has no tachometer but it has a SWITCH wired to it so I can turn the instruments on and off. Thanks Cave Dog |

Cave - I think maybe it is time you acquired the services of a marine mechanic?

Cave,
I suspect you had one or more disconnected wires touching something they shouldn't and when you switched on the instrument panel you had a dead and unfused short. The smallest wire will be the first to go. As 67 said, an hour's education on-site from a professional mechanic might be the best money you ever spent. Correction: second best money. The Moyer manual comes first.
