Exhaust Leak
I’m a recent owner of a project 1973 27’ Catalina. The boat has not been in use for several years but we were able to motor it for roughly 5 hours to its new home. During the trip exhaust was getting into the cabin and smelled rich. I plan on looking over the exhaust system and might potentially replace everything. What are some things I should consider when tackling this project?

Post a pic or 2 and some ideas will follow. Most are cobbled out of std black pipe fittings. Stainless is good too but expensive and harder to find pieces. Avoid using galvanized as much a POSSIBLE as the off-gasses from it are harmful and poisonous. Our host can supply a very good water injection fitting.

Pictures and we'll get one layed out for you.
To second the no-galvanized rule, I have done that so you don't have to. The first hour or two of use the heated zinc STINKS and the fumes will actually make you feel like you have a bad cold or flue - it is called metal fume fever No need to replicate the experiment

I had a minor exhaust leak which turned into a major leak which was almost a catastrophe at sea one day. I would encourage you to prioritize the repair. The parts and guidance from MMI and the forum made my project fairly painless.

Yup - a tiny pinhole is 99.9% of the way to a hole the size of a half-dollar. It is not unheard of for the entire thing to collapse in your hand while you try and remove it.
