Reverse Retaining Spring

Hi
I have a late model atomic 4. While adjusting the reverse and turning the 3/4 inch nut, I noticed that the retaining spring was broken. I believe this spring is there to prevent the adjusting nut from turning. The part department tells me that they do no stock this item. The spring is half broken (i.e. one of the arms is still there). Can I leave with this? Where could I look for this part? Any other solution?
Thank you
