Everything Works Fine. What should I do!??

After ignition coil overheating and fuel starvation sounds at lower rpm it seems like all my problems have been solved by just running the motor harder. After learning how to use the manual thermostat bypass I can keep right at 140 (in 89* Gulf water) even after running nearly wide open for ( in yesterday's case) 2 hours or more. My question is this- is there anything wrong with doing this? I try not to run it at 100 percent but with no tach I just have to open up then pull back a little. Just sort of wondering how people "normally" run as far as rpm/mph when things are working well. I have an Ericson 29 1970 with original A4 rebuilt 3-4 years ago before I bought it this May. The boat weighs 8500 lbs and at what feels and sounds like % 90 it can move at 7.5 + mph (gps) no wind or current. Two blade non folding prop. This weekend runs at or near these numbers for 2 hours or more each day. Is this within the realm of reason or am I cruisin for a bruisin? Tough problems to have I know, but diagnostics are more difficult when there are no apparent malfunctions. Also has anyone upgraded to a 3 blade A4 specific prop and if so, was is a worthy investment. Thanks

I have a P30 about 9000 lbs and I run it at 5 1/2 - 6 kts and with a indigo prop. I think the engine likes this speed as it just goes with no odd sounds, I do use 15 - 40 rotella and that really quieted down the sewing machine noise. My oil pressure is steady at 40.

If You Want To Pursue This......

I'd get a handheld tach so you can get a solid RPM number then go from there.
