Fuel squirting

I bought an 86 Oday. The fuel tank is original. In fact the only change to the entire motor and fuel system is a fuel pump to a switch on the interior accessory switch. So my first question is... On the top of the fuel tank while the A2 is running, a small amount of fuel squirts out the top not a constant stream but quite often. The excess fuel ends up in the motor tray and I clean it up. I'm guessing its for pressure relief? But it's also strange to me that it's designed to just overflow continuously? Any insight? Also, the accessory switch and pump seems like a redundancy. I've both started and run the boat without it and with it. Boat runs fine either way? Thoughts as to why the previous owner would have installed? And the pump doesn't seem to affect the squirting. Is this a diesel engine you are talking about or an atomic 4 gas engine.

If this isn't a diesel I hope the insurance is paid up

Careful

There would be no need for a "diesel style" priming pump on an A-4.

If it is diesel it is still a big worry as warm diesel lites quite easily and if it is gas remove and inspect before EVER TRYING TO START unless of course you wish your boat and you to be a statistic.

Gas can explode and diesel can burn either one leaking is dangerous.
