Fuel Pump PSI

Welp after several weeks of intermittent shutdowns from fuel related problems. I finally found that my recently purchased facet E - fuel pump from Moyer marine had a factory loose + wire coming out of the pump cylinder. This was causing the fuel pump to intermittently shutoff when the boat started moving. I slapped in the spare fuel pump bought by a Previous owner and now the engine does not have the intermittent shutdowns. But it is pushing anywhere from 5 - 7psi to my carb. The PO must have not purchased their pump from moyermarine. As measured by my fuel pressure gauge. How dangerous is pushing 4 more psi than the recommended 3psi? Ordering a new fuel pump today but would like to know if I can run the engine in the meantime?

Not 100% sure...........
My pump runs right at 4.8 and I do not have any issues at all. Ages ago I had a 10 PSI pump and regulator and could tell no difference between 1 PSI and 9 PSI. That said, I would be a bit worried about leakage past the needle valve, especially at low speeds. If it were me, I would find a pump in the 3-5 PSI range for peace of mind. Meanwhile, if the engine starts to bog at low throttle settings that will be a sign you are getting too much gas. Our carbs really are not demanding for pressure, we use maybe a gallon an hour at most.

Try asking Ken @ MMI when you return the pump. He knows a lot of A4 related stuff - he might know the answer to your question. No harm in trying.
