Thermostat gasket

I successfully removed my thermostat today in order to give it what looks like its first vinegar bath ever. In the Moyer Manual and in the online catalog, I don't see anything that looks like the rubber gasket (red arrow) internal to the thermostat housing.

Two questions:

1. What is the rubber gasket called and where do I get a new one? (Maybe it's part of the thermostat itself?)

2. I know I can (and will) order the thermostat gasket from Moyer, but for tomorrow's sail: can I use automotive gasket material and cut my own? Do I need gasket sealer as well?

What your arrow is pointing at is orange RYV sealant to seal the std thermostat gasket. Easily available from our host or any auto parts store. I would recommend using either Permatex #2 or #1 to the RTV sealants.

Thanks for that and will do!

Any input on a temporary, self-cut gasket for the thermostat housing?
