Engine Bay Picture Sticky - 2014

I seen the pinups but they're old now...I was thinking more of an actual owner engine bay picture sticky...Many times it is useful for many, especially newbies, to have picture references for ideas, reference, etc.

I don't want to post mine yet as I need to at least get it going and finished so I will come back and edit this post to post mine...

While doing so, please post what boat, year, etc...

That's kind of a good idea.
Mine is mostly embarrassing, but I'm sure I could clean her up for a modeling session.
Until then, all you get is spy photo from 2011. I caught her before she had her coffee one morning—not her best.
Most of those wires are tidied up or even ripped out.

Russ, is that battery #2 on the starboard side (nice and accessible/close to engine)? And do we barely catch battery #1 on the port side?

Correct. The Columbia 36 engine bed was a molded-liner thing complete with battery boxes. it cleans up very nice whenever I make splooge in the engine "room"

You never know these days, I've got a pair of steel toed shoes that are Nike sneakers. They have a non-marking deck shoe-like sole. Perfect for boat work.

Beautiful Tom but I call unfair advantage. Starting with a gorgeous Moyer rebuild . . .

Cared for A4's

Good idea, Southcoasting! Can't wait to see each of the beauties when they get posted. The "red head" is a real eye turner. The Moyer rebuild, though, are you a v-drive (exhaust at other end of manifold)? Also, apparently getting your nails, er, plugs done! great work and useful motivator to add some more polish to mine.

Would like to see some close-ups of the choke cable set-up. Our C30 may be what you all also have, but there must be a better cable fastener method than what we presently have.

Russ, on your water pump, what is the protrusion dimension at the power take off pully. Seems that I could add a small front access hatch in front of our A4 and be able to fit the pulley and pump on ours. The heat exchanger location may be another issue. Let me know though. Thanks

Tartan 30

Tom, upon another look, apparently your motor, based on orientation of shift and throttle cables, is a normal (not v-drive) set up. True?

Rod, True dat. Mine is a direct drive swinging an Indigo prop. The orientation might be throwing you off a little bit, so I posted a little bigger view:

In the Tartan 30, the engine sits just aft and to port of the mast. As you can tell, the access is wonderful. It isn't as quiet as those with an engine compartment more sequestered, but the tradeoff is worth it to me. Almost everything is easier with this location.

Thanks Neil, I appreciate the compliment. The MMI rebuild had maybe 20 hours on her when I bought the boat. She does look beautiful, but the hard work came from Don and MMI.

She's gorgeous any way you approach it. Very nice.

only the nuts on the pulley touched the engine room door. I just bored a hole with a hole saw. I haven't covered it yet.
I don't have the size of the pulley but maybe this pic helps you get the size of it. It's a two-part unit. The wheel bolts to the hub:

I have a nice big engine room but it's still rather cramped for taking a nap.

To the best of my knowledge this is original condition on my 1976 Cal 2-27

I ran it today for the 1st time since I bought the boat in February which was only ran long enough to see oil pressure come up good. And only the 2nd time it's been started in 2 years. A little slow to start the first time but ran smooth once it kicked over and no visible smoke out the exhaust.
I need to change a few leakey hoses and it ooks like the alternator is dead but all in all I'm happy.
