no further turns available in fwd gear adj

While running the engine wide out, it slipped out of forward. In normal rpms, the problem doesn't occur. From a Moyers video I learned of the forward adjustment and that a slight tightening was called for by my engine.

I loosened the screw-headed bolt that locks the cogged forward gear adjustment wheel. But I could not rotate the gear at all in the clockwise direction. As a test , I was able to rotate it the other direction.

Anyone pursued what comes next? Do I need to force the rotation?

That sounds to me like your forward clutch assembly might be worn or damaged. Not sure where you might find replacements, other than salvaging them from another paragon assembly.

@bobtookmm:

You may find this information on the reversing gear helpful:

https://sites.google.com/site/arnolt...n-reverse-gear

Depending on what is causing your problem, you may need to salvage parts, as Ed mentioned. If so, I have a gear cage that I replaced with a refurbished Moyer unit years ago. As far as I know, the only thing wrong with my old unit is a blown out yoke bearing. You're welcome to have it for the cost of shipping it to you.

I've attached a photo.

Jack.

Lightbulb My trans popping out of gear!!!!!

When I bought my boat it would slip out of gear when more that half throttle was applied. My problem was that the trans forward adjusting ring was set to tight and would not go into the "detent".

Do the yoke pawls go into the detent now? If not it needs to be backed off.
Also check the linkage to be sure you have enough "travel" to engage the detent.

When adjusting it is easier and better to have the shifter linkage disconnected. That way you can "see" what is happening while shifting.

I had to back mine off a bit so the pawls could get over the detent to lock in forward so it would stay engaged in forward. I have seen this on 2 other A-4's with the same problem.
