Hi
I have the 202m 03 Pump. Its leaking and needs to be rebuilt.(at least the seals). Is csob 09 70 the correct part number? Also any tips on getting the pump out? Rebuilding?
Thanks!

Question

That number is the rebuilding kit for the Oberdorfer pump; is that what you have? Getting one of those out can be a challenge unless you have the extendo bolt already in place. But do get the pump out for a test of the shaft wobble before you order anything.

yes very challenging to get it out. Might need a new profession as a contortionist.
Besides wobble what else should I look for when deciding to do the whole rebuild or just new seals? And yes it's the ober pump.

Talking

The problem with the Oberdorfer is that sooner or later the housing itself is worn by the stainless shaft spinning in it. A new shaft and seals usually is only a temporary fix. For a while I got into re-bushing the housings by boring and then installing a new bronze sleeve. The problem with that is there is so much labor involved by the time you get done with the rebuild kit, boring bit and sleeve (and labor) you're getting close to a new Moyer Marine 502 pump. So why mess around with the Oberdorfer unless you can determine the housing is sound?

It depends on your temperment or philosophy. You will have to decide for yourself. Myself, when ever the seals leak I just rebuild the whole shebang.
One thing for sure if the shaft is scored, which it most likely is, you will have to replace it as well as the seals. So take the pump off the boat disassemble it and see what needs to be replaced then place an order with MMI.
Put up a post if you have any questions.

Im going to resuscitate the pump with a new shaft and seals. I have a grease gun hooked to the grease cap and its otherwise ready to go with hose ends and such. Hoping it lasts a couple seasons at least. There was a little scoring on shaft at the seals but the rest looks pretty good. Now I jist need to get the seals in correctly (any input there?) and ill be in good shape I think. Thanks for all your input I appreciate it. Learning more about this atomic 4 everyday.

The lettering on the seals should face each other inside the pump bore. Use a spark plug socket (I think a 13\16") as a drift to press them in using a vice as a press. You can also tap them in with a hammer. If you chill the seals in a freezer for a spell and carry them to the work area between a couple cakes of frozen blue ice they will be easier to start squarely.
