Welcome 65. One of the first things I got on this vertical learning curve was the Moyer manual.

Welcome! Don't be shy about asking questions. There's lots of knowledgeable folks here who are eager to help. We all were A4 beginners at one time.

      We love pictures.

          Is it still put together?
#1 job is a pressure test to make sure it can be rebuilt.

Welcome to the Afourian site. I advise you to stop and get some opinions here as to where you are in the process. Info and pics really get good responces and info for you.
You will need to check on some of the weak points before disassembly or inspection of "wall integrity" if you can't do a pressure check.
Lots of info here and especially the eagerness to share that info.

No such thing as a stupid question as it is just something you don't know yet! If your confused get another explanation that may help.

                Welcome, 65!

                To add a picture:

Scroll below the "message" box where you enter the text of your post.

In the "Additional Options" area, look for a button that says "Manage Attachments."

Click on it to upload a picture file from your computer.

                HTH.

Welcome 65Invader, you have found a great bunch of Folk's here and as you have all ready seen they are always willing to help and share their knowledge.

I see you have Trenton as your location, is that on the North side of Lake Ont or South side??

                  later, Chapster5

                    Welcome Invader

I recently took on a full A4 rebuild with pretty much zero knowledge. As I went along I posted questions on this forum, talked to Ken at Moyer, ordered the bits and pieces I needed from Moyer, and got the job done. These are probably about the simplest engines to rebuild ... OK, maybe a Briggs & Stratton lawn mower engine is simpler, but not by much!

I kept a journal of the rebuild, I'd be happy to send it to you if you PM your Email address.

                      Another welcome.
It will be interesting to see pics of your A-4. We should be able to tell if it is all original or if it has been modified in any way. My A-4 is from 1965, # 77414. I rebuilt it several years ago with little/no previous experience so you will be fine. I can relate to your comment about the manual, but it will start to make sense as you proceed. Read and reread. IIRC I found that the manual dealt with late models more than the early models but that could have just been due to my lack of knowledge. If you have any issues just post on the forum or talk to the folks at MMI.

Welcome to the forum. We're here to help and we enjoy doing it. It's not for the pay!
You already have the Moyer manual and you're reading it? I'm impressed. Most newcomers to the forum a) don't have the manual, and b) don't read it until they're trying to put things back together.
Doing some tests before disassembly is wise - a few blocks are cracked or corroded to the point that a rebuild is not going to be satisfactory. Best to find this out before spending your hours or dollars.
Please add the cost of glycol cooling to your rebuild budget (if you don't already have a heat exchanger and the new Moyer water pump). This is needed to protect your newly rebuilt engine in the future.
Rebuilding an A4 is enjoyable - at least it is to me. Kinda therapeutic. Enjoy!

                          Forgot to mention....

It is considered good practice on this forum that a bottle of your favorite beer be found somewhere in the first picture you post.

I don't remember how that started, although a couple of names come to mind.
