It's getting harder to transfer video off your phone......anyway,
posted them on youtube and the links are working. Check it out. ....first video - first start after many years - start up fluid does the trick ! http://youtu.be/q-wPsRK2-8M second video: just let the motor idle, checking temperature, oil pressure and an alternator charging numbers Couldn't be happier http://youtu.be/QJMaPY1ZWGE Wojo |

I didn't bother to check the video because i am lazy..but glad the motor is running!!!!!
edit - OK, I checked the vital signs video..NICE!!! Sounds great!!!! your mechanic buddy's idea of closed circuit cooling is a great idea. You need a heat exchanger (radiator) of some sort and a 2nd pump to circulate the other coolant. I am using the gear driven pump on the motor to run raw water thru the HX, and a Johnson electric pump (3 amp draw) to circulate the antifreeze thru the engine block/manifold. There are many other options, such as a second belt driven pump off the flywheel, or even adding it into the alternator belt loop...mine works OK for me. Moyer sells a really nice HX, or you may be able to find something similar on the Internet that will suit your needs!

Thank you Shawn,
Today I acquired 89 Chevy V6 for towing the boat to the boat ramp. I will definitely think about closed cooling circuit in the future though. For now I just keep painting, installing hoses, re-tapping NPT plugs etc. The latest "must have" is a an hour counter - would like to keep a record of engine hours.......any suggestion?? Wojo |

I installed a "Tiny Tach" and it worked well. You get a tachometer and an hour meter. Installation is super easy.
http://tinytach.com/gasoline.php These are about $50, but there are knock-offs on eBay for less than $20 (no idea if they are any good).

Thank you Loki,
since I have 2 round shape gages on a dashboard already ( oil pressure and RPM), I am leaning more toward this one http://www.amazon.com/Quartz-Tractor...25QJQB4V7D0W0B Wojo |

So there is a hole in exhaust manifold, that during test start water was dripping out of.
Moyer guys told me that there should be a plug for getting cooling water out of the system for the winter. The hole must be plugged with stuff - they say. Threads are rusted out, so I am ready to re-thread it and install the plug. My question is: what do I use to seal the plug thread with????? |

Wojo, I'd use Permatex #2 if I had it or Teflon tape would be OK.
Do you still have the old Cal 46? Dave Neptune |

Hmmm.....I used Teflon tape on 2 block drain plugs, but I was not sure if I can use it on exhaust manifold......Thank you Dave!
....BTW - never owned Cal 46....did have Aquarius/Balboa 23 though |

Few days after starting the motor for the first time in years....I have notices some oil in area indicated by an arrow......it's an early motor, and later years had that part horizontal rather than more or less vertical.....any idea why there is an oil coming out?.....it was quite much for the few minutes that motor was working

The corrugated metal "hose"/slash tube on the MC, early model A-4, has always been a little oily. It is pulling from the crankcase so it seemed normal to me. On the late models any oil would drip down into the carb. The early set up gives it a chance to drip out.

...I would be happier with the motor being less oily
...I will have to find a remedy for that - oil collecting pan..?? |

A PCV unit could keep the oil out of the arrestor but likely make the engine run "dirtier". You may have a blow by problem developing.

so have the motor in the boat......in the winter just don't feel like doing anything in cold "tent".
Went there today - had some time on my hands - and found the motor all wet from the cold weather/fog/etc . Have a fan working there, pushing the air trough the tent - to prevent condensation. Question is how to protect the motor - short of putting the boat in heated storage ?? I feel like all the work that was done in the summer is going to go to the waste Last edited by 2dogsnight; 11-10-2015 at 10:16 PM. |

Venting the enclosure is the best bet, I think. When it gets cold at night and the interior is warm from the previous day with no ventilation, all the parts on the inside of the tent get wet.
Can you use the fan to pull/force air out/into the entire space? (maybe put it on an appliance timer to only run for XX hours like 9PM to 8 AM?)

Summer went by and no progress to report on Atomic.
I did build two kayaks ( Mill Creek 13) from Chesapeake Light Craft plans. had family from Alaska and Poland and we had lots of fun with kayaks and 15' Glen L 15 with an outboard. Tomorrow my mechanic is coming over and we shell look into wiring, gages etc on Atomic....still not giving up on it https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-R...-no/16%2B-%2B1 here my daughter with two out of 4 grandking........in the background I am zooming on Glen L 15 with more family |

Those kayaks came out really nice...Okume plywood?? Hopefully Ed's note helped you out with the pics. get them local on your device somewhere so you can upload them to the Moyer site. As an alternative, if your cloud people allow it, you can wrap a link to an external picture with {IMG}pic URL{/IMG}, but use square brackets instead of curly ones. here - check it. I took your picture links above and used my advice..hit the "quote" button on my post to see the tiny piece of code that makes it all work...

Hi Shawn,
yes, very funny with the choice of designs ....I wanted a kayak that is stable and simple to build, and friend from Wooden boat forum suggested few designers and picked the Chesapeake. I love the design - looks like an old kayak ! Yes, Okume 6 and 4mm. They will looks nice when I am done. Now I can be on the water in 10 min Here is an early picture with the kayak on my car |
