Question Looking for A4 mechanic in San Francisco Bay Area

I'm looking for a good A4 mechanic in the San Francisco Bay area, preferably someone who is close to Alameda.

Thanks

Welcome Jeff

The forum's general opinion of professional A-4 mechanics is pretty dismal. It's not that there isn't a great one out there, just that we've never heard of one. Every mechanic story we hear has some sort of outrageous Shinola along the way so as you search be cautious.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your engine. What are your skills, strengths? What is going on with your engine? You'll find an underlying theme on this forum: if we can do it, so can you.

You'll find that forum members are reluctant to help out first time posters - in spite of a promise to pay for their services. I helped out such a person last year, he promised to pay but didn't. I ended up to the loss - in addition to the loss of a day of my time, there were the parts I used out of my stock.
Current feeling is cash up front.

Jeff, + 1 what Neil says...give us some more info and let's see if we can help. A mech is going to be many $$/hour & none of them want to fool around with an old boat with an old engine like the A-4. It simply is not profitable enough for them, I think, but I am on the other coast.

Wow Al, that is the complete antithesis of my experience offering help and I'm sorry it happened to you. I've never expected or asked for any remuneration but forum members that I've tried to help have nevertheless been most gracious. As tokens of appreciation I've received (but not limited to) a Moyer coffee cup, meals, wine, other personal gifts and a couple of members made generous donations to my preferred charity, one of those with matching employer funds.

I cannot say enough about the high caliber of people I've met on this forum, many in cyberspace and others face to face. I have to admit I'm surprised by your experience.

That is too bad
I haven't had anything but good luck dealing with other forum members. I actually used to work on boats for a living and don't miss all the issues I had with customers.

I've been on here learning for a bit over a year and have never been asked for money. This group has been fantastic in their support, as well as their wealth of knowledge.
