    SS water jacket side plate

I recently heard of a problem with dissimilar metals corrosion of the block when using the stainless water jacket side plate.

Product No. - OVWJ_08_139 in the Moyer online catalog

This information was not confirmed, more like hearsay five levels removed. Anybody know of such problems? Please spare the theories, I'm asking about real world examples.

    Metals

Niel, any dis-similar metals will create a galvanic action. A stainless cover should work as well as a steel one on the Hi-nic iron block and it will last much longer. It should stay grounded to the block through the bolts and not cause any problems. I have used many stainless fastners on my A-4 with no problems.

Where did you find a stainless one?

That A4 guy in Cabrillo Marina I mentioned has one. Moyer sells them too.

I was a little skeptical with the rumored block deterioration, that's why I put the question out there. The strongest case in favor of the stainless plate is the fact that Don offers them.

"Please spare the theories" really shut down the chatter, didn't it, Neil?

          Bill,
I have a theory about that.

Neil was asking for experiences on this matter. Gaining knowledege from them would be rare, and long term.

              Yeah, how 'bout dat!

Which raises a question Bill: any idea how many, if any, stainless water jacket side plates Don has sold?

              edit:
I've learned of 1 instance of a SS sideplate. When removed, it had zero effect on the block.

                Rusting away

The block would go away more than the SS plate, not because of the SS but because moisture was getting under the gasket and the block would rust faster than the SS cover. That is why I don't like silicone type sealants.

Neil Don't you remember the Gong show guy who
claimed to work for the CIA, which prompted the only response excepted to the "we will neither
                  confirm or deny" policy.

We don't discuss the specifics of sales data. One of our competitors is in fact a forum member, so I hope you can understand the rationale for keeping confidential business information just that - confidential.

                      Sorry, Bill.

I mean this in the most positive way, I often forget this is a business, see it more like a family.
