For Sale - C-30 #511 Twice Around

I am selling my boat. The short story is we went to the dark side, and bought a powerboat. Now I have two engines to maintain (well...three until someone buys the sailboat!)

Sailboat has the original Atomic 4. It has lots of MMI parts and upgrades. Runs great.
I also have a complete rebuilt MMI motor I rescued from a cut up boat, if interested, with approx. 100 hours on it. The plan was to drop the MMI replacement in but this motor keeps running.
I have a million pictures, but most here already know I've tried to resurrect and maintain this boat to the best standards for the next owner.

Starboard bulkhead replacement in 2014. I also tied the chainplates into the lower structure with 'jock straps' when I replaced the standing rigging.

She is solid. 2,300 RPM with a clean prop and bottom.

The end of an era, or at least a significant milestone in life. After some 18,000 miles on the Chesapeake, we sold our beloved Chardonnay last year. Lynn still cries when the subject comes up in casual conversation. There is a wall in our home covered with family members' portraits . A picture of the boat is included there in a place of honor.

My recollection is that Laura loved that boat every bit as much as you. Hope the two of you will prosper with your new love.

Hey Shawn,
It been a pleasure to know you on the forum here. I guess there comes a time for everything, as Bill mentioned. Past few years I've slowed down a lot as well and my love for sailing in moderate weather makes my body pay for it EVERY TIME! Im on facebook, Maurice Mullaley, and I post a few pics and videos on there regularly. Just yesterday I "motored" to a spot and grabbed a mooring for supper. Sailed it back though, just didn't want to tack upwind. I am feeling my age, and I've thought of moving on from sailing and picking up a power boat....then I'd be back in he game of getting it to where I want it.

I don't know how many years of this is still in me. Wish I could have another 25 years back. Been a great run though and maybe I'll be here until I'm 92, like and old friend that sailed until last year. Who knows.

Shawn, as you know I made the leap (fall) last year and even relocated to the middle of the country. I absolutely understand how difficult it is to give up sailing. I do envy you in that you are still in the same location just a different boating style.

You should post up a pic or 2 of the new boat as it is really a nice one from the pics you sent to me a while ago. This forum will still probably be the best site even for your two V8's as there is so much "general knowledge" here to be readily shared. A gas engine or even a diesel is still an engine functioning in a marine environment.

Do enjoy the new boat and stay in contact here on the forum, as you are a valuable source of knowledge on marine applications with your knowledge of the A-4 which is just another gas engine!

Thanks everyone! I appreciate you sharing your personal stories. Some folks (like my father), just up and quit sailing one day and never looked back..it is just time for us to open our book to a new chapter.

The real dilemma we are facing is we have so many opportunities to go sailing, we are not using our own sailboat enough. Also, we just do not have (make?) the time to take 2 weeks and go sailing somewhere. Boats like to be used...I don't want this one to become a statistic (again) under my watch. We do love the boat, and it served us faithfully for almost 15 years. I hope it serves the next owner as well as she did us. I have been admiring this particular powerboat we purchased for almost as many years as I've had the sailboat. The window of opportunity to acquire it was very small. Fortunately, all the stars were aligned.

Like Dave, I am sure I will stick around the MMI world. Without this forum, I would not have known where to start in 2008.

I still have to sell the boat, too, and I am not really advertising it yet. As with all my projects, the plan is always to try and make it perfect and new again (which never happens but the expectation is always present ), but I will need to make a must-be-done-before-sell-list and decide where the cutoff is. As an example, I have the seahood and anchor locker lid in my workshop for repairs and paint, so there is a tarp covering the cabin top right now.

Congratulations Shawn. I hope you find a buyer who will give Twice Around as much love as you did and she'll give back just like she did with you. It's cool to see a 45 year old boat in as beautiful condition as yours.

The important thing is that you will still be "Messing around in boats". It has been a pleasure reading your posts (almost 7000) over the years and your rebuild of your C-30 stuffing box is a legendary piece of work. Please keep us updated about your new ride, who knows?, maybe some of the Moyer gearheads can help you with some of your "new boat challenges".

The 'new' boat spins it props at 3,200 RPM at cruise speed of 17kts with clean bottom and running gear. It can easily go over 4K so I hear, but then I am definitely throwing $20's out the back at the point.

I will always be messing around in boats..this one is just different than are typical here on the MMI forum. It has 4 barrel Holley carbs () and loves to burn fuel if I run her too fast. But it is a relatively old school boat with twin 350 Crusader Chevy's with carbs. I have not even popped the dizzy caps off yet, but I do think it has electronic ignition.

Neil, who helped me extensively with the re-wire project on TA will be pleased to hear that I am basically starting that project over again..this powerboat did not even have a USB port in it to charge your cell phone (or iPad or GPS puck, etc.)

One additional consideration for the wiring on the new boat compared to Twice Around is greater attention to physical support of the wires independent of the terminations. Vibration is much more pronounced.
