    Removing manifold studs

Unfortunately my exhaust manifold is so clogged up with rust I have to pull it off. The problem is I have a Catalina 27 and the A4 is practically shoe horned in the compartment and I don't have enough room to completely remove the manifold. I thought about cutting the fiberglass to make a bigger hole but I would have to cut down to where it curves out horizontally and that is a non-starter. The other option I have is to unbolt the motor mounts from the fiberglass and slide it over but I'm afraid it may go too far and fall off. If that were to happen it would be a beast to get back on. So I'm wondering how hard the studs are to unscrew and has anyone done it in the boat before? However if someone has removed the manifold in a C27 I would love to know how you did it.

Did not mean to post this in electrical!!

Thanks for the help as always!

    Chris

Have you tried the muriatic flush yet?

I soaked my clogged exhaust mixing elbow in Muriatic acid for a month and it is free and clear now.

I tried but the acid would not pump through. I have since unbolted and separated the manifold so I'm committed now.

For all Catalina 27 owners with the Atomic 4. If you need to remove the manifold just unbolt it, slide it as far away as you can, then take a pipe wrench and unscrew the studs out of the block. It came right off with no problems and is pumping water through like a champ with another ported and polished (well cleaned real good anyway!) manifold.

        Cheers!

          Cool.

Did you seal the studs back into the block with a Permatex product?

Nice tip on the manifold studs. I will definitely be adding it to the "tool bag."
