Oil Change: volume of oil
I change the oil faithfully in my old model A4, in fact I change it more often than reccommended because I can never get more than about 1 3/4 quarts of old oil out of the engine. I normally use the original hand crankcase pump that came on the old model engines, but even if I suck it out through the dipstick hole I don't get a significantly greater amount.
I worry that I am not getting enough of the dirty oil out and am simply adding 1 3/4 quarts of good oil to a greater amount of dirty oil. Is there any way that I can get more of the old oil out of my engine? Mike |

3 quarts of oil from A4
I changed oil on my A4 yesterday and got 3 quarts out through the dipstick tube, using a hand pump. It may help that I'm lying on the starboard side where the dipstick is while pumping, heeling the boat slightly.
my boat is a Cal 2-27 |
