Engine/ transmission Problem

2 things are happening.
1) When I shift into reverse rpm's drop by 300 but in forward, it drops by 800-1000rpm and I have to throttle up.

2) Last time out, the transmission slipped out of forward and I only had reverse.

Transmission adjustment and Moyer Manual

Not sure if you have Moyer Maintenance Manual. If not, get it.

I have not needed to make transmission adjustments yet. I have been monitoring my transmission and so far nominal operation.

I have studied the adjustment to the forward gear and stabilizing detente position and reverse friction using direct drive transmission adjustments.

Here is an old and useful thread with several sublinks.

Sounds like an issue with the shift cable or it's adjustment.
Recommend to take the cover off the transmission (engine off) and see how the shifter stuff is moving. When shifting into fwd, you'll see the shifter cone moving aft. Do the pawls engage fully? They should snap into place in the groove in the cone.
When shifting into reverse, does the cone move fully forward? It should almost contact the fwd adjustment collar. If it doesn't, try backing off the reverse adjustment nut and see if it moves further.
A lot of shifting problems are due to the cable, its mounting, and its adjustment. The core of the cable has to move freely. The jacket of the cable has to be secure at each end.
