rebuilding exhaust question

I am rebuilding the hot section of the exhaust from the A4 to the muffler of my P30. The water inlet fitting I bought last week from Moyer has a 1 5/8 inch OD. The fitting on the muffler is 1 1/2 inch OD. It looks like the previous owner stretched a 1 1/2 hose over the (now failed) Onan water inlet. What is a good way to stretch a new hose over the fitting? is there a marine exhaust hose safe 'grease'? Or would hose clamps seal a 1 5/8 inch hose to a 1 1/2 muffler? That doesn't sound like a good idea?
Thanks,
Paul

heat

Not sure about your exact situation, but in general heating the hose before pushing it onto a fitting works wonders. Holding the hose in hot water for a minute or two is best: a heat gun is my second choice if that's too awkward.

And to lube the hose use some Dawn. Greases can eat hoses.

Exclamation

Paul, not sure if you are trying to reduce an 1 5/8 on to an 1 1/2 or stretch an 1 1/2 on to an 1 5/8 however your right that it's not a good idea. You want the integrity of anything that can leak dangerous gasses or water into the boat to be done correctly so it is safe for you and the crew. IMHO.

You could maybe cobble an adaptor together or find one.

Did it work

Were you able to replace the exhaust hose? What size did you end up using? In the same situation myself.

Red face No news there

MuD, first welcome to the MMI forum.

Unfortunately Paul P30's post was the only one he ever made so no answer there probably as it was a year ago.

My advise is the same as before in my post on that thread because forcing something to fit in the exhaust especially and anywhere else on a boat is not a good idea.

Take a look at the space you have and try to cobble an adaptor of some sort.

If you could describe what is going to what IE larger pipe going to smaller hose or visa-versa perhaps someone may have a good idea but you will need the "space or length" to install it.
