Solenoid removal

I am going to replace my solenoid.it is connected to the starter. Do I have to buy a new rubber gasket.? Anything I should know. I plan on removing the alternator to give me better access.

If the rubber seal is not damaged it can be reused.

Removing the starter might be less work than the alternator, it is only 2 bolts.

I follow a few marine engine forums, but this one is the only one where solenoid is (usually) spelled correctly. Soleniod, selinoid, soliniod, solinoid, etc.

And so....thanks.

I helped someone at my marina take their starter off. They assumed it was a very involved operation that would involve me climbing over the engine. They were amazed when I had it off in about 45 seconds. You can reach around and feel the bolts, it isn't very hard.
