New Afourian keen to get started...

    Greeting Afourians!!

I am a novice sailor and soon to be A4 caretaker based in Maryland. I'm about to take ownership of a 1982 Catalina 30 with a currently non-starting A4 engine.

The engine cranks but does not start. The current owner believes it is a carburetor issue and is including a brand new carburetor (still in box) with the sale. The engine apparently did run last season but was not properly winterized. I've already ordered my moyer marine manual and plan to spend my first weekend of boat ownership trying to bring this old beast back to life.

My first course of action will be to get the new carb fitted, drain the old gas and replace it with nice fresh stuff. I'm also concerned that the current owner (who is not mechanically inclined) may have been cranking the engine with the seacock open so I might have to deal with water in the cylinders.

My question for all you experienced afourians is this. Is there anything specific I should plan to take with me aside from my manual and a basic tool kit (sockets, wrenches, screwdrivers etc). I'm already planning to take some jerry cans and a siphon pump to to drain the gas and and some fresh oil to give it an oil change. Are there any other items that might be good to bring along?

My hope is that I can get it running well enough to last the season and then pull it out for a full overhaul as a nice winter project.
