Newbie with question

I purchased a new for me 28 columbia this year. PO had removed the A4 but it has the shaft and prop in place with a PSS dripless shaft seal. PO installed an outboard on a bracket which i am using this year in preparation for reinstalling a rebuilt A$ next season. Any recommendations on the prop and shaft for this year? Should i secure it in place to keep from spinning or remove prop from shaft. Any thoughts would be helpful

Thanks

RE; pss seal

Sgnlman,
The PSS shaft seal depends on bellows compression for it's seal. Probably the easiest approach in this case would be to apply some rearward force to the propshaft flange, keep it from spinning and get busy rebuilding that A4.
welcome aboard, Tom

As Tom pointed out the shaft ring must be held firmly to the bellows, otherwise water pours in. Make sure no loose gear can come in contact w/the bellows and disturb bellows to ring seal. Dripless boxes have sunk more boats then the old packing type. Pull back the spring bellows and you will see how easy it is to dislodge.

If there is no water intrusion, leave it. If you want you can pull the prop and leave the shaft. or flip the prop to minimize friction in the water.

Good luck!
