Loss of fuel pressure shutdown video

This is in real time so you can get an idea of how long the engine runs with no fuel. Note the gauge has a red light that comes on at 1 PSI. The vacuum gauge you can just see the corner of is manifold vacuum. Note the shutdown is NOT gradual with sputtering and coughing. IMHO it is not that easy to tell this from an ignition shutdown. |

Was putting my pressure washer away and being late in the season, decided to run it out of fuel by shutting off the valve between the tank and the carb.
Engine ran fine for quite a while (no load) then started to 'lope' - run a bit, halt a bit, repeat - perhaps 2 sec each for run/halt. After 20-30 sec of this, it finally quit completely. This behavior is for a NEW Honda engine. |

My outboards are different, they too will sputter and cough. The A4 just quits as you can see in the video.
I have found that cockpit-visible fuel pressure is a HUGE help in troubleshooting. |

Joe, I like your cockpit 0-5psi FP gauge over engine mounted 0-15psi. Can you recommend make or source? Also, is it"in line mechanical" or electrical with a sender? Thx. Sam

It is electrical.
It is a "5 volt" gauge and sensor I got from FleaBay. Here is the gauge: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pressure-Tr...cAAOSwUBlZsJt0 I got a sensor from them too, but they seem to be out of them. Here is another one I found: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1-8NPT-5V-S...8AAOSwY5ddXSPo They all use a standard wiring harness, you can find extensions for them if you don't want to make it yourself. |
