    MM Direct temperature / pressure gauge

    Does anyone have experience with this product. It is sold on the Moyer Marine website for $43. Is it is a substitute for the ISSPRO 1/2" water temperature sending unit?, i.e., does it screw into the same hole in the front of my late model Atomic 4?

    If you know the thread size of the new sending unit you can confirm that it will fit into the hole by twisting nipple of the same size into the hole.
    I went to the hardware store and bought a short nipple and tried it in the hole before I ordered the new sending unit as a check (as I recall it was 3/8" - the new boat owner has all this information now so I can't check it).
    Ken at MMI would probably know the answer to your question.

      Are you talking about this?


      It fits into the cylinder head in place of the electrical sending unit and has the same pipe thread - 1/2".
      Unless you can see your engine underway that isn't going to be extremely useful IMHO.

        Thanks to you both for the replies. Yes, that is the unit I am talking about, and that answers my question about the thread size. I am considering
        it as an option because the water temperature gauge does not appear to be working. I have followed the checklist provided by Ken. I have a short time to get the boat ready for a transit from Rhode Island to the Chesapeake, and thought this might be a good temporary solution. Again, thanks for the information.

          The temp gauge can't be that hard to fix. You need a sender, a gauge, and some wire. You can get the senders and gauges from many places including Moyer, Amazon, West Marine,and other places.
          Quick check - take the wire off the sender and measure resistance to ground. It should be about 240 ohms when cold and full scale hot, which is probably 240 degrees, should be 33 ohms.

            One more comment on the direct temperature / pressure gauge. I managed to get in touch with Ken today at MM, and when I asked about this, the first words out of his mouth were, "You don't need that". It is intended for those who are bench testing their engines.

            I will be buying the ISSPRO water temperature gauge and corresponding sending unit. Again, thanks for the replies.

              HOW DO YOU KNOW IT'S NOT THE WIRING?

              Disconnect the wire from the sending unit at the sending unit and gauge. Attach a jumper wire to one end of the sending unit wire and run the other end near the other end of the sending unit wire. Put an ohm meter on these two ends. Should be zero ohms.
