Timing Gear

The timing gear on the crankshaft has a flat side and a raised side. Which side goes which way?

Yes-ish

From the photo I would conclude the flat side faces out towards the drive gear. Do others agree? Thanks.

Agree. Flat face goes toward you as you put the gear on the cam. This provides a good seat for the lockwasher and nut. Observe the match marks to the gear on the crankshaft, and don't forget the key.

Timing Gear Mark

Thanks all. So, the timing gear does have an alignment mark on the flat side.
Obviously that would have to face out. Senior moment on my part. lol
