CNG Fill

I risked the "not a necessary trip" police to drive to the CNG station. This is what it cost fill my tank up from 200 PSI to 2000 PSI
I attached a photo of the adapter. They are still on FleaBay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Boat-CNG-Ta...cAAOSwt-hePIHA

Joe--

Out of curiosity, what do you use CNG for?

My stove - on the boat. The house stove uses a big 100 gallon propane tank that goes months between fills.

Cool! Did the the stove come that way or did have to change the jets?

I don't know if Joe's is this brand but Gas Systems, Inc. offered a line of natural gas fueled stoves starting in roughly the mid 1970's. If I recall they were modified Hilleranges. It was a solution to the dangers we have been discussing in another thread about propane on board (natural gas is lighter than air so it does not collect in the bilge in the event of a leak). At the time there was also a general disdain for pressurized alcohol as a cooking fuel.

Neil--

Great data! I'm converted from propane to NG with the rough calculation of NP needing about 30% more volume to achieve the same BTUs. So I ended up drilling out orifices in a very nice Ducane SS propane BBQ and increasing the area of the jet thru using machinist drill bit for measuring and later drilling out the to new 30% more volume diameter.

I also needed to remove the regulator, change out the hose and connected for NG. That said, it's been 8 years and it have been working really well.

... the real takeaways is "lighter than air" ... so no bilge/gas worries.

Wow - I think this is the first ever propane to CNG swap I have heard of! Do not discount the danger of methane, the DeepWater Horizon rig blew up from methane real good It isn't helium, a leak in a closed cabin is still going to diffuse all over the place. My gas tank is off when I am not cooking! Note "propane" alarms for houses and boats alarm just fine with methane too

FYI - this is just one example:
https://www.amazon.com/Cal-Flame-BBQ...6717519&sr=8-9

Jets for propane>methane or methane>propane conversions are all over Amazon. I had to buy some to convert my stove at home to propane.
