Clutch and throttle control retrofit

Catalina Direct offers a clutch and throttle control retrofit that fits between the pedestal and the compass. Has anyone had any experience with this system? I need to replace my 30 some year old Catalina 30 clutch and throttle control and this looks interesting..

Dick,
I believe the Catalina Direct item is the same as the Edson 816ST-45. CD price = $374, Edson price = $349. Maybe the CD has a longer shifter for more leverage.

Depending on where you're located, I saw a slightly used unit in excellent condition last week at Minney's in Newport Beach for under $150.

Hi Dick,

I recently repowered my Pearson 10M with a Universal M25 diesel. Originally my 10M had a A4 and only the throttle on the Edson Pedestal. The clutch control was on the port side near the cockpit floor. The clutch cable was a thick one needed for the A4 however the M25 needs a 33 sereies cable for both throttle and clutch so this control on the pedestal appeared to be a good and timely project for me.

Also since I was anyway opening up the pedestal, I also fabricated a teak drink holder and fitted it on the pedestal just below the compass. In addition I moved my Engine control gauges to the Pedestal mounted EnginePod made by Ocean Equipment.

If you are interested I can post some pictures of my project(s).

This is definitely doable. Only one word of caution or point to investigate for you is - How will the thicker clutch control cable needed for the A4 fit in with the 33 series cable needed for the throttle. You will need special attention to the 'cable holder' that is needed to be fitted inside the pedestal. I have the install instructions from Edson for this assy that I can send you. I can also point you to the Edson service rep who is very helpful too.

BTW, I too found a used engine control assy at a local consignment shop and ordered other needed parts from Edson.
