bad hose rant

This is the SECOND time I have had to replace the fuel lines in my dinghy because the vapor barrier was coming apart from the hose

Angry Yikes

Joe, I have not seen something like that. Most hose I have seen with liners were for higher pressure FI feeds. There is a pronounced liner to be seen when cut.

What kind of hose? It also looks like it failed from the outside in.

I am very interested it what happened here and WHY as well as old the hose is.

I am probably singing to the chorus here or at least telling these pros what they already know. A few years ago when I was replacing fuel lines I got educated on ethanol low permentation fuel lines that came in class A for interior installations [inboards] and class B exterior for outboards etc if I remember right. Any chance your using the wrong class and it is subject to UV/weathering?

The hose is in the trash, so I can't tell you what the brand was, but I am about 90% sure it came off the reel at West.
UV attacks the OUTSIDE of the hose. It would have to eat through all that rubber to get at the inner liner. I had the silver UV proof outboard hose before and that was even worse. The inner liner not only broke loose, it was dissolving into goo.

Joe, are you using any additives in the fuel?

That may be the $64,000.00 question

I am. The outboard gets 2 stroke oil and SeaFoam. Do you think the SeaFoam dissolves the liner?

I would certainly suspect it. I have run 2 stroke in many things and still do and never seen that problem. I have used it in my cars for the last couple of decades with no issues, both injected and carbureted.

I doubt it would be the seafoam itself but may be the combination of them.

What class of 2-stroke, oil or synthetic (TCW-3)?
