Broken syphon in fuel line?
A friend is having a fuel problem. Engine runs fine for 10 minutes, then quits. After repriming the fuel system, it's good for another 10 minutes. Removing the tank filler cap doesn't change things. Engine runs fine off an outboard tank.
To me, it sounds like an air leak into the fuel line up above the level of the fuel in the tank. Perhaps an air leak at the tank shutoff valve or one of the threaded or barb connections. Or perhaps a crack/pinhole in the fuel tube inside the tank. I'd like to put a little air pressure into the line, soap the connections, and look for bubbles. Any suggestions for the best way to do this? I don't want to just hook it up to the air compressor. Perhaps run the compressor output through a propane regulator? Oh yeah - does the diagnosis sound reasonable? Anything I might have missed? |

Electronic fuel pump or mechanical fuel pump? If electronic read on.
I got fooled on this same issue recently. I was getting random shut downs. While I was working through the diagnostic sceme the shutdowns became more frequent. Finally the engine would run for ~45 seconds to ~ a minute then shut down. To make what was a long story short the OPSS had failed. This was weird for me because the three OPSS that I have before the one that failed quit abruptly. The recent one that failed died a slow death. TRUE GRIT |
