Also in anticipation of perhaps needing to replace it (with ISSPRO R4006-4) can it be removed from the block without the oil pouring out? I believe there's some spring thingy to watch out for? You can connect a pilot light to the fuel pump.
You can install a fuel pressure gauge.
The former will tell you if electricity is getting to the pump and the latter will tell you if it actually is working.
