Engine Oil Level, Drain?

I just acquired an old hull with a A-4. My previous expierance has been with engines driving four wheels.

How do you check oil level (no dip stick)?
How do you drain oil?
Is the tranny/reverse gear and engine oil combined?

Regards,
Don Boehl

Don,

To check your oil level, you can purchase a dip stick from our web site (product number: OOIL_07_123), and to remove the oil, I suggest one of our oil change kits (product number: KTAS_05_90).

Since you're starting out with no dip stick at all, you might also consider one of our dip stick extension tubes for easier checking of the oil level (product number: KTAS_01.1_312).

The reversing gear (transmission) is serviced by the same oil supply used in the main crankcase of the engine.

Best regards,

Don

Oil Change

I have an Ericson 35 with an A-4 (obviosuly, why else would I be here?).

Since my engine sits at an angle (10-15 degrees?), it tends to pool the oil in the aft part of the pan while at rest. I find running the engine to heat up the oil, wait 15 minutes to let it mostly drain back into the pan, then open the transmission case and suck it out of there via a Jabsco oil change hand pump works fine. I then pour about 1/2 -3/4 quart of fresh oil in the fill pipe and suck up the remainder. This seems to work fine, but I have great access to my engine, other situations may differ.
