Stiff reversing gear
My engine dies when I try to shift the reversing gear out of neutral. Is this a sign of a stiff (or frozen) reversing gear. If yes, what is the best way to solve the problem?

Try disconnecting the shaft coupler and see if it still does it.

We probably need to know a bit more to give any useful info. It could be several quite different things.
I'm trying to envision how or why the reversing gear would seize or freeze up. Can't imagine it, unless one of the planetary gears or something broke and jammed up the works - or if the clutch is jammed in the engaged position, that could do it, I suppose. But that seems unlikely to me. If you have the boat in neutral with the engine off, is it possible to rotate the propeller shaft? Check to see if maybe the shaft is seized for some reason. Otherwise, I would suspect either a dirty carburetor with gummed up jets, or timing.
