    On the Great Lakes

Our first Atomic 4 was in a 1962 Tartan 27 bought in 1994 when we were totally new to sailing and she behaved beautifully, boat and engine, until we had things sorted out.
In 1999 we set out from Lake Erie via the Erie Canal and spent 2 years cruising in the Florida Keys and the Bahamas.
Although we had some problems ,there was nothing that couldn't be sorted out with intimate knowledge of the engine and a well thought out supply of spare parts .On the gas versus diesel debate ,gas is more available in out of the way places ,all you need is jerry cans and strong arms. Also some repairs can be made using a hardware store .
Our present Atomic is in a 1972 Douglas 31 and we had planned on cruising south in her last year but changed our minds on the New Jersy coast for a variety of reasons ,none to do with engine or boat.
We are at present on Lake Erie but plan on sailing up Lake Huron to Mantoulin Island and sail the North Channel, which is some of the best cruising in the world. Just my opinion!
    Take care and have fun
