Thanks John. For a typical sail that would mean 4 open/close cycles times about 20 sailings/yr. That seems to me to be more than occasional. I thought maybe by installing a second valve in series I could alternate their usage thus reducing the number of switch cycles per valve. Anyway my thruhull uses a ball valve (lever moves 45 degrees, inline or perpendicular to the line) though I don't know if all the parts are bronze or brass. I sail only in fresh water. I think it's the original installation (43yrs).
