Atomic4 engine for sale Chicago, il

    __SOLD__ Atomic4 motor.

My ATOMIC 4 IS OUT and awaiting a new owner! My P28 is in the water at Burnham Harbor in Chicago. I have lived aboard for over 4 years. Due to Covid, I got stranded on the river without a chance to get her out on the lake as I usually do during the summer. I confess I neglected to run the motor periodically throughout the summer. I was involved in a number of repairs and since I was dock-locked for the summer, running the motor in was the last thing on my mind. I know better.
    > When I winterized the motor this last fall, it was rough running. Since I planned to repower this year anyway, I didn't address and servicing. I can report that in the 4 years that I have owned the sailboat, I have not had any issues with the motor. I sail into and off of my mooring can. So, I rarely go through a tank of gas in a season. However, since the boat stays in the water year-round, I motor 10 miles up the river in the Spring, and 10 miles down in the Fall. These "bridge runs", as they are lovingly referred to, can take up to 6 hours. Forward, reverse, full power, and sipping gas. It can be a real test of a motor's ability, and I have never had an issue. The motor runs at hull speed at 180 deg, no smoking...ect. I believe that the motor is original, so 1976

Joe, please take no offense, I think your price is too high. No one really cares about the tank, controls and batteries and stuff. They are probably a burden since the buyer would probably need to dispose of them.
You might be better off lowering your price and ditching the accessories yourself.

I concur with the price comment but I could use a little guidance - don't want to steal the thread About 30 yrs ago I bought a A4 from an older gentleman who's son was forcing him [and paying] to repower to diesel for safety concerns. He had the block reworked in what what called a "short block rebuild" and had machine shop bills etc. It turns out it is a late model and I have had for 45yrs a 1966 Morgan 34 with a very good running early model. Anyway it has been stored indoors heated at the yard in the original shipping grate and periodically I would add oil to the cylinders and hand rotate. I may need to switch yards after this season and loose the storage. To anyone what is a good number to give someone a deal for "pig in a poke"?

To both of you, price improves with more good news/information. History of the motor of RWC vs FWC and where it was ran if RWC is good info. IMO, having compression numbers, a video showing it running, etc help tremendously in luring buyers. Pictures are a must.

If you could show the cold and warm oil pressure, that would in increase interest for remote buyers as well.

So far, I've had two late model engines and both had unacceptable oil pressure after 30-40 mins of run time... even with aggressive adjustment of the oil pressure relief bolt. Which is why I spent $3500 doing my "Puzzle" rebuilt. Now the oil pressure varies only 5+ PSI between cold and hot.
              Thanks,

Pictures will be coming/$3500 was an initial hope only

I posted the update with the $3500.00 as a transparency to communication I've had only. I expect to haggle down from $3500.
The ultimate goal is that the motor will be used and by someone that needs it. I hate to see a b oat or any part thereof sit idle, in good condition, and go to waste.
I always expected to post pictures, but not until after I had it out. I am completely disconnected now and expect to pull it out after Easter. I updated the listing because I struck up a discussion earlier than I expected, so I went with it.
In response to the suggestion that people would not be interested in all the accessories (tank, gauges, ect) I get it. I wouldn't want to have to dispose of something I don't need. I am more than prepared to dispose of anything that a buyer does not need. I don't expect it to raise the value, but if someone were doing a full swap there may be a need.
I am converting over to electric and everything is getting replaced....so everything is up for grabs too

Make an offer. The motor is disconnected and ready to come out. I will be moving the boat out to my mooring 01 May, so I am hoping to sell it before then.

Joe, Under the carb, there is a 6 digit stamped number which is the block date. the serial number gives us a general idea of age, but that block casting date is really a great data point. Ignore the embossed number..we all think that is a casting number. It is the STAMPED number that is less prominent we are pretty sure if the block casting date.
If I was closer to Chicago, I'd be negotiating with you...condition pics look reasonable if everything else checked out.

I think this is the wrong number. The last 2 digits should be the engine casting year. Look just above the number you took a pic off; and yes, it is behind the fire protector for air intake

                            see below for an example
