First test of new alternator

Ok..I finally got it running today.

It is wired in the simple "one wire" method. I have a
thick (6 ga?) wire connecting to the "bat' large terminal.
Ground is by the mounting bolts AND a short...

Yes.....to your comments.

As you state..wires have to be "good". A battery
cable from the alternator is "very good" So the
voltage as measured at the alternator will
be extremely close to...

The "system voltage"..i,e, the volts measured at
the battery terminals in theory is identical when
there is no item drawing..or producing current...

Thanks for the information.

The first time I "fire it up" with the new alternator
I will have a voltmeter on it...and then go from there.

I am still keeping my order for the small tach that gets it's pulse
from a spark plug wire in case this has problems. Anyway..no

I got a hold of a good marine alternator shop. They charge $107 per hour and
he thought adding the W wire may take about an hour and a half...

Hmmm.....the pretty looking hole plug...

thanks......the instructions for my tach just show either using a "w" wire from the alternator or a "pulse sensor". Zero details beyond that.

I will try to contact an "alternator shop" tomorrow.

Ok.....

(I have the resistors now and will try a test this weekend to see if
I can just use the negative COIL terminal, with a 5k resistor.)

As a backup, I may want to purchase a "real"...
