I used a JEGS fuel pressure gauge - stainless steel case, glass lens, liquid filled. It worked well for many years.

Yes, it would be great if the polishing filter stopped the (alleged) crud from entering the carb.
The only way to "check" the polishing filter if you don't have a fuel pressure gauge after it before...

MY EXPERIENCE WITH REVERSE

Not trying to be argumentative here...........

I found after that awhile I got the feel of how my boat handled in reverse and I didn't mind the fact that reverse control wasn't quite should be....

DO YOU HAVE AN ELECTRONIC IGNITION?

If you have an electronic ignition and the coil does not have the correct amount of resistance (to little resistance) it can run at a to hot temperature and fail prematurely.
