reverse adjustment

you may be dealing with a cable/shifter problem rather than a reverse gear adjustment.

I disconnected the prop shaft from the motor and the linkage cable to the shifter. I found that with the cable attached the lever was not reaching the full extreme engagement point (the detente?)...
