I've used them for several years for both engine and air conditioner. They work fine, but can melt if too close to the exhaust system. :(

I would change the oil until it comes our clean....

I would change the oil until it comes our clean. I would also squirt oil into each cylinder via the spark plug holes, let it sit a couple of days and then try to turn the engine over with a crank....

I think a valve there would violate USCG regulations. It would likely void your insurance if it leaked causing a fire or explosion.
