Hi! Pearson Renegade owner!
 

Hi all, I recently purchased a 1968 Pearson Renegade 27. I bought it out of the water sitting on a boatyard where I prepaid for three months. I'm on the second month of work. I bought the boat with the carburetor pulled, so I was not sure it would start. I rebuilt it and it started without hesitation. I ran it for a few seconds to avoid damage to the cutlass and raw water pump (hopefully). I'm about to tackle the engine and decided to join the forum for insight! Hopefully I'll be able to get some expertise and share some of my own experiences along the way.

The motor itself has a fresh water conversion, which is great. It also came with ample spare parts. I spoke with the previous owner and he did not know much about the motor. I get the feeling that the original owner babied the motor, but the last owner just ran it until the carb got clogged, or worse.... we shall see!

Get a bucket ( 5 gallon) supply water to it with a hose, put the the water pump intake hose into the bucket and start the engine out of gear. Prime the water pump first.
The prop sounds to large for the boat. Other experts will be along soon with more specific information.

Welcome to the forum. We like pictures so don't be bashful.

If the carb clogged, I'd be suspicious of the fuel system. Pump a gallon out of the BOTTOM of the tank and see what it looks like. Check hoses and filters - both get old and require replacement. Be leery of any filters that a magnet will stick to! Finally, many of us have added a small pressure gauge at the carb inlet. Helps answer that 'Am I getting fuel' question.

Would you mind posting some pictures of the exhuast setup/ engine set up. Im working on a total A4 repower and refit on my renegade. It seems us renegade owners are a bit uncommon so we should help each other out
