Ok, now I'm all caught up on all the suggestions... and no progress on the stuck valve using the various methods. So I pulled the head off. Would have pulled the thermostat for its annual exam anyway...

I'm thinking you may have the vintage Morse side-mount sail controls with a Morse cable? I have a little arrow made of red tape that points out "neutral" and every spring or so I adjust where it is...

I thought you'd enjoy seeing a photo of my Ranger 29 A4's Oil Sensor/OPSS with purple wire to the fuel pump... I have great access portside to the engine but everyone puts one leg on these...

I never found a wiring problem, although I jiggled and wiggled (the wires, that is...) The batteries tested just short of "bad" and the alternator tested...
