I just put my boat in after a 13yr "rest" period. My A4 has begun to make a high-pitched grinding/rubbing sound coming from the area of the water pump/distributor gear area. I took apart the water pump; replaced the impeller, and noticed the shaft wasn't getting any grease; due to the ball bearing inside being frozen. I did drill this out....will get a new one if Don thinks I should. At the other end of the water pump, is a pulley which drives the alternator.......could this have a bad bearing in it? I am going to check the distributor gear today. Yesterday, in addition to the grinding/whining sound, it started to steam alot......otherwise, it runs perfectly after sitting so long. Oil pressure is 20-25# at idle. I have never acid or pressure flushed the cooling system, but am going to do that today. I am also going to replace the temp gauge/sender, just in case that is bad.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!
