    Frank,

Mine is an Edson. Edson has an excellent, although pricey, supply of parts and will sell direct.

For your era boat as far as I can remember there were only two companies providing pedestals to the sailboat manufacturers an they resembled each other so closely you couldn't visually tell them apart. The other company was Yacht Specialties. They were eventually bought by Merriman and operated for a while under the blended name. You'll sometimes see the name abbreviated on the forums as YS. If you think you have a Yacht Specialties pedestal try contacting these guys:

    they claim to have parts.

One other company was Whitlock but I've never heard of them used on production boats.

    Good luck

    Hi Neil,

I was wondering if you know the manufacturer of the pedestal on the Catalina. It looks just like mine. I have a 1974 Tartan 34. The pedestal looks like the edson, but as far as i can determine, is not. One thing is that it has plastic or sleeve bushings on the horizontal wheel shaft. At some point I will need to get replacements.

    thanks Frank

Yep, I worked at Capital. Electrical was not their long suit but they (we) weren't substantially worse than anyone else.

You need to determine whether your issues are in the mast or the deck. Either way it's better to replace than repair. The wiring through the deck is inaccessible anyway.

You may consider cutting a hand hole in the side of the mast near the step to gain access. I removed my mast for a 3 month refurb project that included complete new electrical. It was a big project but once done, it's DONE!!

    Neil,

are you the forum member that once worked for Capital Yachts building the Newport 30 ? If so I wonder if you might have any insight on how to deal with the wiring at the base of the deck stepped mast. Mine is a very funky mess. I am not sure what is original and what is "improvements" by the previous owner. Are there any resources that you think are valuable for work in this area ? (I would have posted this as a tread but I cant remember how to) Any insight would be a big help. I have resolved most all of the other challenges including getting the engine to start and run, new water tank new holding tank etc.

    Hi Neil,
I've been a bit scarce lately. I have been prepping the bottom of my boat for a barrier coat and bottom paint. Decidedly the hardest work I will ever do with anything sailing related. The FWC project has come together to where I need to have the engine in the bed to do the final fit. I'm sure the unexpected will find me in the process. Yet I'm doing my best to forsee potential snags, if that's possible. Will get some pics up soon. So, hopefully by mid May I'll be able to fix a launch date. Things going well otherwise.
    Hope all is well.

    Jon

After looking around I too found that Amazon had the best deal on a Moeller Permanent Tank. I just finished ordering mine with free shipping. I'll have to remember to use or cxl the Amazon membership. Again, thanks for the tip. Dave

After looking at the 'About me' info I answered my own question about 'Betty Boop' - yes you built it yourself - and what a great job you did!!!

Just browsed thru your albums - Great Pix! I got carried away and wrote a 2600+ word note here. I copied it off and will send it to you in an email I guess. Anyway, Thanks for the inspiration!!! Dave

I'm not the one to ask. Never done it, never needed to, never even looked for one. Dave Neptune, Hanley, 2dogsfishing or Thatch might be better sources. You might consider asking on the open forum or maybe giving Don Moyer a call. Sorry.
