Been thinking about checking crankshaft straightness and came up with something that might work.
a) With the block inverted, install two main bearing shells. Lay the crankshaft in the bearings, give a bit of oil, and check for free rotation.
b) Rotate crankshaft so rod journal #1 is down in the block. Put a cross bar across from side to side. Use a depth mic to measure the distance to the journal surface. Should be about 0.78" plus the thickness of the bar.
c) Repeat for rod journals 2, 3, and 4. Depth readings should be same for a straight crank.
