oil pressure regulating valve tool

I purchased the seat dressing tool for the oil pressure regulating valve a while back and just got around to trying to use it this weekend.
After draining the oil I was able to remove the pressure regulating screw and spring, but how do I get the ball out to dress the seat?
Any tricks?

Tip your boat on it's side and it should fall out.

Sorry, I just had to do that.
I do have something constructive—I think a magnet will help here. One of those little ones on the end of a stick that you buy at the auto parts store.

Hold a rag in front of the regulating valve hole and have someone operate the starter for a second or so. The ball will come rolling out in your hand with a bit of oil, but not all that much.

When you use the tool, be sure to coat the end with white lithium grease and then remove the tool frequently to check the grease. As you remove material from the seat it will turn the white grease gray, which is a good indicator. The teeth at the end of the tool are designed to remove only a small amount of material at a time but I still always urge caution in not pressing too hard or turning too aggressively. I don't know of anyone who ruined a seat by removing too much material, but I suppose there's a first time for everything.
