Water pump rebuild
I had replaced the water impeller earlier but it was a smidge too thick and stuck above the lip of the housing a fraction—didn’t’ think this was an issue at the time, but the backing plate did leak water. I thought the leakage was from general failure of the water pump internal seals, but the new impeller was a better fit and could tell the difference when reinstalling the backing plate.
Water was dripping from the weep holes of pump, and a minor bit from the elbow fittings as well. Rebuilt pump with MMI kit, cleaned up and re-taped the elbow fittings with teflon tape. Also cleaned up the rust on side of engine and repainted area with Rustoleum paint. Good thing to do whenever a engine part comes off. Pictures in reverse order. |
