    I would be interested in seeing a schematic of the system. The temp drop was quite dramatic.

        I am not familiar with the Indigo Thermostatic valve. The schematic for the High Hopes TBV is found at this thread called Final Design.

          Thank you for both the diagram in the older thread and the excellent video, great stuff. I am curious as to the goal of having the system. Your engine looks to be raw water cooled, are you in fresh water or salt? Can you please explain the purpose of your design? Thanks

            That's exactly what happens when I close Don's ball valve bypass kit. When i first installed it, I had the valve closed and thought my temperature gauge didn't work!

              This is a raw water system. I have a second water tank on the boat which I use for flushing the engine with an antifreeze mixture. The tank also provides for a fresh water flush for the head and eliminates nasty odors. This winter is the first time I have it all connected.

              The red valve to the left in the video is for the antifreeze tank. I will work both valves in normal use. I will be using antifreeze all year so that even after a warm weather run, I can keep the bay growth down inside the engine block. Glycol in the antifreeze kills it. There are also rust inhibitors in antifreeze which, hopefully, will extend block life. So basically, this is a poor man's way to have the benefit of a fresh water system without the expense.

              And it also allows the mistress and me to keep the head in use all year long. We sail on the Chesapeake and the weather is often warm in the late Fall months. We don't haul the boat out until January. We can open the intake seacock and sail when the weather allows and easily re-protect the engine from the colder days when we get back to port.
