Shaft DisEngager

I was thinking of the Caviat that was mentioned for those who desire
lots of Engine RunTime in Neutral to run the alternator extended periods
of time for refrigerators, etc.

The engine transmission was not designed for long periods operating in neutral and may result in excessive wear and possible damage to the gearing.

Would it be possible to create a external shaft disconnector. which
would be external to the engine and aft of the transmission. so that
those folks who desire to run the engine can do so in forward safely
rather than in neutral simply by disengaging the propeller shaft?

Perhaps something like this already exists or could be adapted.
