Handy tool to extract seals from water pump

    All,

As usual, the scenario is DIY, mess things up, go to the forum and either find the answer or by reading trigger a better thought from all the advice.

In trying to rebuild my Oberdorfer 202 water pump, I was at wits end trying to remove the "inner water" seal. It was coming out in pieces and I was sure the pump walls were getting marred in the process.

I even started to design an extraction tool and was about to make it, when looking for my tin snips I found the solution at the bottom of the toolbox. Several good souls had mentioned bending a heated screwdriver to a right angle. Why that had not triggered the recollection is not clear, but when I saw the Sears Craftsman Offset screwdriver, the solution was in hand. I was able to "walk" the remnants of the seal up the cylinder wall until it popped out.

I have no idea why I've owned this tool until this point, but it goes from the general tool box to the boat tool box now.

    I highly recommend it - Sears Item# 00941315000 | Model# 41315 - at just under $3.

    Chris
